About Dr. Anna Manatis, MD, MPH
Back to the Cape.
“After 6 years at Mass General and 7 years at Mass General Brigham in Hingham, I am excited to bring my practice back to the Cape.”
Her story
Dr. Manatis was born in the United States but grew up in Greece after her father died in a car accident when she was four — the same year her grandfather, who lived with the family, died of pancreatic cancer. The family returned to the U.S., then went back to Greece when she was in sixth grade after her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her mother worked three jobs — two offices, one of them run out of their home — and never stopped being, in Dr. Manatis’s words, incredible.
She grew up watching her mother practice medicine from their house, and started early: in nursery school, she’d wake up other children to ask how they were feeling and check their heads for fever, since she didn’t have a thermometer. She studied anthropology at Harvard, earned her MD at NYU School of Medicine, and later returned to Harvard for a Master’s in Public Health in Occupational and Environmental Health. She has lived on Cape Cod since 1989 and practiced medicine in East Sandwich for 20 years — at one point holding privileges at three hospitals at once. “I always said I travel so my patients don’t have to,” she says.
Her daughter, also a physician, once told her: “Mom, you made it look so easy.” It is easy to do something you love, Dr. Manatis says — that doesn’t mean it isn’t stressful. You hold people’s well-being in your hands, and that’s a tremendous responsibility.
Still on the water
Outside the office, she babysits her grandchildren, keeps three Pointer Setters from the same litter (a gift from a patient), and spends as much time as she can on the water — swimming, kayaking, or just reading. Same coastline she’s called home since 1989.
The concierge model
Dr. Manatis built The Doctor’s In around one idea: patients shouldn’t have to compress a life’s worth of questions into a fifteen-minute slot, and they shouldn’t be sent home for arriving a few minutes late after driving across the Cape to get here.
Membership means she keeps her patient list small enough to actually know the people on it — who they are, what they’re dealing with, and what they need from a given visit. Some people need very little time. Others need all of it. The model exists to make room for both.
Access, texting, virtual visits, and house calls as necessary.
Labs reviewed at the time of your visit — not days later, in a portal message.
Evidence-based care, and referrals to specialists she trusts — not just the closest name on a list.
Two shorter slots held back every day for sick calls and urgent visits.
